Colbert County Children's Policy Council Welcomes Our New County Coordinator
The Colbert County CPC is happy to introduce Lea Anne Carter as the new County Coordinator for the Colbert County Children's Policy Council.

CCCPC bids farewell to our first County Coordinator
Melinda McCoy, came on board as the first County Coordinator in October of 2004 and has served Colbert County and its children from the heart. Melinda has recently accepted a position with Safeplace, another very important agency here in the Shoals area and will be leaving by our next scheduled meeting of May 17th.
Melinda has been a great asset to our agency here in Colbert County and the CCCPC is sad to see her leave. We take this opportunity to wish her all the best in this new path of her career.

2006 Children's Services Conference
The Conference was a success! Very organized and informative. Over 130 people were in attendance.
We are excited to report that the Methodist Church Association has purchased the old Brandon Elementary School. Our steering committee is planning a breakfast for 21 potential board members on March 17th. We plan to start moving agencies into our Shoals Family Success Center within two months.

The Annual Children's Policy Council Conference
This years annual CPC Conference will be held at the Sheraton Birmingham Civic Center. Pre-Conference on March 28th will be sponsored by the DCA. Detailed workshops will be held on Substance Abuse Prevention, Family Resource Centers, Rural Health Care and Teen Pregnancy.
The Conference begins at 9:00 a.m. on March 29th. The deadline to register is March 14, 2005.

The State Children's Policy Council, in discharging their responsibilities under Code of Alabama, 1975, Section 12-15-130(c), is distributing the 2004 State Resource Directory of Children's Services. In the interest of efficiency and fiscal stewardship, this distribution is being conducted electronically. A printed version of all counties and their respective resources is over 3,000 pages in length. You may receive access to the Guide at www.kids.state.al.us. The information contained is updated on
a regular basis.
Should you desire a printed version, we invite you to download and print the information locally or provide the Department of Children's Affairs with a request and a check for an amount to be determined based on the number of pages printed; and, a printed version will be mailed to you.
Thank you for your service to children. Please let us know if you are aware of service information in your area which might be added, deleted, or corrected in the Guide.

The Colbert County Children's Policy Council recently hired Alex DeJarnett as Youth Development Facilitator. Mr. DeJarnett will operate under the administrative supervision of the Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments and will work for the local policy council and the Department of Children's Affairs. He will serve the needs of Colbert County youth ages 14 through 21 with a focus on education and career development. The YDF program is federally funded and has as its primary mission to link resources and build primary systems and partnerships in the community in order
to provide every youth with an opportunity to succeed.
