Community Storm Shelters

As part of Colbert County's commitment to being 'Storm Ready' and with the aid of FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) grants, the Colbert County Commission has erected Community Storm Shelters in four areas throughout Colbert County. Built of reinforced concrete, these shelters are designed to provide our citizens with safe harbor during severe weather conditions in the County.

These storm shelters are located in Cherokee, Littleville, Leighton and Ford City.

  • Cherokee
    1211 2nd Street
  • Littleville
    1448 Jackson Highway
  • Leighton
    8856 Main Street
  • Ford City
    14439 County Line Road

These shelters are available to the citizens of Colbert County and our visitors when severe weather situations threaten. Once the Colbert County Emergency Agency has been advised that the area has been placed under "Tornado Watch" status by the National Weather Service, the shelters will be opened and remain so until the severe weather threat has past; at least for the duration of the "Watch/Warning".
